The Student Satellite Project (SSP) at the University of Arizona was initiated on November 7, 1996, by Department of Physics Professor K. C. Hsieh and Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Professors Wayne Chen and Ernie Fasse.

Currently, the Student Satellite Program is mainly involved in two different programs. They are CubeSat and AZStar Camera.

Rincon Research Corporation is sponsoring the Rincon 1 CubeSat which is scheduled to be launched Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at 19:43:00 UTC or 12:43 PM MST.

Rincon Research is supporting the launch by constructing a radio web portal to record signals from all CubeSats during the early orbits. Rincon Research has constructed a ground station that records the entire CubeSat band during passes over Tucson. A 800 kHz-wide pre-detection data recording will be a permanent record of signals from all the satellites. These data will be time-tagged using GPS and frequency referenced using a Rb atomic standard.

Rincon Research uses digital signal processing (DSP) techniques to contruct plots of spectra vs. time. These can be used to determine the status of satellites and confirm association of satellites with NORAD element sets. These displays are posted on this web in the Observations folder.

Pre-detection data records of satellite passes are available. Contact RinconSat@gmail.com with requests.
